Be Silent in Conflict and Confuse the Enemy

Thoughts are things. Words are as well. Our words can, and often do, have more of an impact than our actions. Our words reflect our thoughts and feelings.

This why it’s so important to monitor our words. They show us what’s going on inside of us, and they have deep impact on others and our relationship with God.

I promise you that on the day of judgment, everyone will have to account for every careless word they have spoken. On that day they will be told that they are either innocent or guilty because of the things they have said.

Matthew 12:36,37

Words can build up or break down. Often, what causes us more pain, stress, and anxiety is our reflection on something that someone else said.

All successful businesses thrive off of one thing – selling the product that they offer. Without talented sales people on the front lines, no business will be in business for long. We all know that what makes a successful salesperson is their ability to speak in such a way that embellishes on their product and guides customers to the sales cart. Sales is a discipline and it takes a long time to learn how to close a potential customer. All sales depend on one thing – the effective use of speech.

The words a salesperson uses is critical. How they use their words determines if they will make a sale or not.

This is also true in our lives and how we walk through it as Christ-followers. God tells us that we will be judged guilty or innocent based on our words.

In Matthew 12:36,37 (CEV) God tells us “I promise you that on the day of judgment, everyone will have to account for every careless word they have spoken. On that day they will be told that they are either innocent or guilty because of the things they have said.

It’s humbling to know that our words will be on trial when we finally meet our creator. We use words so carelessly at times.

We face confrontations throughout each day, everyday. Many times we are simply being tested to see how we will respond. If we knew we were being tested, we would probably be better at choosing our words more carefully or just being silent altogether.

Our words can never hurt if we are silent though. If we are heated or just unsure how to respond, it’s always a good rule of thumb to err on the side of being silent.

Let’s be aware of our enemy’s plans and always choose our words to glorify God; or just remain silent.
